  • Adopted the Movie. We can Do Better: 6 Evenings on Transracial Adoption with Adult Adoptees. – Watch the film and discuss the themes.  In six evenings (February 28th through May 1st) we will show the film and the five sections of the companion DVD. Each evening is introduced by adult adoptee experts, who will also facilitate the discussion afterward. The series is curated by Dr. Amanda Baden, an expert on transracial adoption and Associate Professor at Montclair State University.   • Adoption and Learning Differences: What to know and What to expect - A Webinar from C.A.S.E. on 4/19/12 will address the relationship between adoption and school performance, with an emphasis on learning differences including ADHD, verbal and non- verbal learning disabilities, and executive dysfunction.  Featuring Debbie Riley and neurospsychologist, Dr. William Stixrud.  See flyer for more registration information.

 

  • Opportunities for Success in Child Welfare: Creating Better Futures for Children and Families – Free lecture by Willie F.   • Parenting Tasks for Multi-Racial Adoptive Families - Tuesday April 24, 2012 7- 9 p.m. Colonie Community Center, Auditorium, 1653 Central Ave., Albany.  The workshop will feature the Dr. Joseph Crumbley DVD lecture “ Parenting Tasks in Transracial Adoption,” looking at how a child develops a racial identity and what parents can do to help children deal with racism, discrimination and identification.   • FREE Program for Parents Who Have Children with IEPs: Hawthorne Country Day School in lower Manhattan is offering services to Manhattan families who have children ages 3-18 with IEP’s.
